The Description

Do you remember walking into a class and being told what you have to read, and wanting to cry? My high school students are stuck in a reading class and want to read interesting books. These books I have requested will help me give my students the joy of reading.

I teach eleventh grade in a low income school. Many of my students are on low reading levels and have never finished a book. They are not able to find high interest books in school, and therefore don't read.

My students want so much to have books in our classroom that would interest them. There is nothing like the feeling of accomplishment when you finish your first book.

Many of my eleventh grade students are on a sixth to eighth grade reading level. My job is to get them to a tenth grade level in time to take our state test at the end of the year. The best way to get them there is to have them read. The problem is that they hate to read.

To help with this problem I am requesting money for 5 copies of 4 popular books (Asylum, Stealing Parker, Perfect Chemistry, and Burning Blue) at $10.00 each.

Our school only has one copy of each of these titles, and the waiting list is all the way to the end of the year.

I have never seen low level students so excited to read. By having these sets of books in my classroom, I will be able to give the joy of reading to all my students.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase as many copies as I can.
