The Description

My first year in the classroom was a success, but there is much improvement for me to make for year 2. A problem that I faced this school year is class size, and it is extremely difficult to teach Algebra 1 when I have 36 students in a class and my students enter my class on all different math levels. Some of my students this year could barely recite their multiplication tables, while other students were well prepared to begin the Algebra 1 curriculum. For this reason, I want to raise funds to purchase subscriptions to technology that allow me to differentiate my classroom for my students. One of the sites I am looking at is called TenMarks which currently costs about $10 per student. This technology would allow students to work on their own pace, and would help students who come in to my class grade levels behind learn the skills needed to be successful in my classroom. Please help me be the best I can be for my students!

Back Up Plan

If we do not reach our goal I will purchase more whiteboards, chart paper, markers, manipulatives and other tools to help make my classroom more interactive and interesting for my students.

Hi! I'm Katie Gladstone and I am a recent Duke grad. I will be teaching in Prince George's County, Maryland. I am excited to be a part of the TFA family and join the movement to solve education inequity in this country and provide all students with a quality education. I'm fortunate enough to be selected from a nationwide talent applicant pool to join a teacher corps comprised of leaders who commit a minimum of two years to teach in high need public schools. This summer I will be participating in an intensive skill and knowledge development program aiming to increase student achievement as well as a comprehensive professional development program including seminars, discussion groups, workshops, and content and professional learning communities specific to teaching license areas. I can't wait for my first year with Teach for America.
