The purpose of the YES Prep Fifth Ward #LikeAGirl Conference is three-fold:

• To educate our female students about relevant issues that affect their daily lives and futures,
• To empower them to take ownership of their decisions and have pride in their femininity,
• And to provide a space to examine and nourish their relationships with both themselves and their peers.

We believe that this will be an invaluable opportunity for our middle school girls to grow in both their individual identities and their relationships with peers at this crucial time in their social and emotional development. Through engaging seminars with female leaders from our campus and the surrounding community, students will build context for what it means to be a successsful, empowered woman in America today. Topics include confidence, healthy relationship-building, and breaking down negative stereotypes among others. Our girls will also get the opportunity to deepen their relationships with each other through meaningful activites, like creative art projects and dance lessons from local high school students.

All donations will go toward dinner and breakfast for the conference from Lunch at Sam's (http://lunchatsams.com/), a local Houston establishment. We anticipate over 100 attendees, including members of our student body and their strongest female role models. The dinner will provide a space for both girls and their role models to come together, and will be the venue for our keynote speaker for the event, Chelsea Freedman.
