Freshening Up for a New Year

The Description

Preparing for a new school year is always a thrill.  I love spending my summer in my classroom, cleaning, organizing, and preparing for a new class of students.  Starting the year off with a pristine classroom is a wonderful feeling.

And then the school year progresses.  With our fun and learning comes soil experiments spilled on the floor, birthday cupcakes smashed into carpets, and contact paper peeled off of tables.  All of the memories are worth the torn books, the ruined materials, and the broken down furniture.  However, I feel that my new class deserves the pristine classroom on the first day of school that they can then methodically destroy throughout the school year.

One week into my summer, I realized I had already spent 100 of my own dollars without even thinking.  From buying paint to cover the crayon and marker all over the bookshelves to replenishing my library with books to replace those that were overly loved this year, there are many things to do to get ready for August!

This money will go to freshening up our classroom for a new group of first graders.  Enhancing our flexible seating options, recovering bulletin boards, upping our storage bins, and buying new books are just a few of the ways I'll be spending money this summer for my kiddos.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal, then I will supplement with my own funds as necessary.  My new Buddies deserve a beautiful classroom, and I am happy to donate my money and time to making that happen!

About the Creator

My entire life has revolved around wanting to teach. I earned my BA in Hispanic Studies from Rice University with the intention of improving communication between my future students' families and myself. I then received my Masters in Elementary Education from Vanderbilt University. I may be paying student loans until I die, but I know that I have the best education possible helping me through my teaching career.

I have taught for 6 years, and I couldn't imagine a more fulfilling career. From 3rd grade to kindergarten, the love I have for my students is immeasurable. I would do anything for them and am constantly striving to improve myself as a teacher and their learning experience. I am excited to have found a new way to help them!
