The Description

With these funds I will...

purchase materials for a listening to reading center (which costs about $350), and material for the reading center which includes books and CD's (which costs about $100-$300 depending on size of set) to enhance children while learning to read.  First grade is a pivotal grade level for teaching reading skills.  In order to have a balanced literacy program, students need to be able to hear stories being read to them.  Listening to stories helps to develop fluency, and accuracy.  It also helps ESL students who may not have anyone at home to read to them.

About the Creator

I am a first grade teacher and have been teaching for 9 years. I love first grade! I believe it takes a strong foundation to build a good house, and first grade is where they get that good foundation for Math, Reading, and Writing. My favorite part about this grade level is when the "light bulb" comes on for the first time and the student finally gets it. Seeing that look on their face for the first time, and a big smile makes everything worth while.
