The Description

If you choose to donate to this project, you will be giving my students the opportunity to develop critical thinking skills with non-fiction stories to reach all learners. Many students only have the local news channel or newspaper to learn about local and global issues, which sometimes is above their level of understanding. Providing students with TIME For Kids will give students an additional resource at their level of understanding and expose them to real-world topics they would love to learn about.

It is TIME to help motivate students to read and be aware of real-world issues. This is a great resource and powerful teaching tool for students because it will build and encourage literacy in the classroom while integrating other academic areas such as social studies, science and math.

A class set of Time for Kids magazines will enhance students reading while integrating math, science, and social studies curriculum. This project will have a fun and positive impact on my students by engaging students with vivid writing and imagery that makes reading exciting for students. Each edition will engage them in critical thinking while touching on important Common Core Standards.

About the Creator

My name is Jasmine Ivy. I currently teach 3rd grade in a low socio-economic area in South Los Angeles. It has also been my dream to become an elementary school teacher. After graduating from Dorsey High, I went to Santa Monica College and then transferred to CSU Dominguez Hills where I received a Bachelor's Degree and teaching credential. My most memorable teaching moment is starting my first day teaching the day President Barack Obama was elected (the first time).
