The Description

This year I want to take my math class to the next level with Mathalicious. It’s no secret that a lot of students hate math. To them, math is just a bunch of random skills to memorize and regurgitate, and they see math class as totally disconnected from their lives. When students see no reason to learn, they don’t.

That’s why through Mathalicious my students will explore the math behind real-world topics, from sports to shopping to the odds of finding life on other planets. These lessons allow me and my students in a position to have interesting conversations that foster a classroom culture of curiosity and rigorous mathematical thinking.

This is where you come in! Your generous donation will get me one step closer to being able to provide these amazing features to my students.

Here is the breakdown in cost for fundraising for Mathalicious

  • Mathalicious - $320.00
  • Preferred Partner Program (10%) - $39.02
  • PledgeCents Platform Fee (5%) - $19.51
  • Processing Fee (3%) - $11.71
  • Total - $391.00 (rounded up to the nearest dollar)

About the Creator

Hello! My name is Diedra Nissen and I am a fifth year Algebra and Geometry teacher at Roosevelt High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I am also a cheerleading coach and completed my masters degree this summer through South Dakota State University. I discovered Mathalicious last year at a NCTM (National Counsil of Teachers of Mathematics) conference and fell in love. I was able to take advantage of the free trial and implement several lessons at the end of my school year. We are currently planned to start school on September 6th and a Mathalicious teacher subscription is $320/teacher per year. I have already begun planning my year and would love to implement more lessons. I am sourcing to help with the funds for starting my school year and to pay for this subscription. I appreciate any contributions to help my students enjoy math even more this year!!
