The Description

With these funds I will work with teen moms:

1. Students will observe story-time programs including many different things to keep the attention of little ones, and we always read at least one book.

For the babies, it's important to use short books with clear, bright pictures and students will learn to select books that can be more interactive. It's good for young moms to see that you can share books with young children without reading every single word verbatim.

2. Local children’s authors will visit & discuss books that encourage children to interact with text.

3. Our young moms will create original story-time programs including a song, rhyme, fingerplay with movement & book. Literacy begins at birth.

4. They will make & use a mini flannel board as part of their story-time program. They will also be able to take their flannel board home to use with their little one.

5. Each student will present her story-time program to classmates (& babies).

6. Students will develop a story-time rubric & give feedback to each student presenter

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase bilingual board books that students suggest & art supplies for story time activities.
