The Description

With these funds we will...provide performing and visual arts programs to children at three Houston are hospitals serving children. These free programs are provided both in the general family waiting room areas and bedside for children unable to move. Programs include puppetry, music performances, bedside music visits, hands-on visual arts activites, and theatre performances. All programs support the overall healing, emotional wellness for children, and allow children to be children while undergoing treatment. For many of the children we serve, they are removed from school and their normal routines due to treatment. Our programs also support parents and siblings going through the treatment process, to provide joy in their lives.

Young Audiences of Houston was founded in 1956 and serves over 237,000 children each year. Our Healing Arts Programs started 20 years ago and each year we raise critically needed funds to support this program and offer it for free to children and families. The artists that work with us on Healing Arts receive training, support and on-going evaluations to ensure the quality and delivery of the programs to children is of the highest quality.

Back Up Plan

If we do not reach our goal we will provide...children with programs available as funds are available. On average our cost is only $4 per child to bring these meaningful experiences to their lives. Thank you for considering support for Young Audiences and the Healing Arts Program.
