The Description

With these funds I will build a growth mindset by introducing maker space activities to the library. I truly believe that to build a 21st century learner, students must be given the opportunity to try and fail at new challenges. Students need to build perseverance, patience, and ingenuity to contribute to society in a meaningful way. Through various maker challenges, students will come to understand that to fail is only a "First Attempt In Learning" and they must learn from it.

Through this project our library will gain the following items in the "Innovator Kit":

  • Strawbees Maker Kit
  • Paper Circuits
  • Hovercraft
  • 3D Creations
  • Makedo Tool Kit
  • Straw Rockets
  • Google Cardboard Virtual Reality
  • Origami
  • Comic Creator
  • Quiver Augmented Reality

Each of these tools are open ended and lead students to creating and discovering on their own. I believe these types of activities will unlock the potential in each child who participates to help them see the value in their way of thinking, doing, and creating. As middle school students especially, my students do not have as many opportunities to simply stop and be creative in such a non-threatening environment. I hope that with the introduction of these maker activities we will see an increase in our students' creativity and curiosity.

  • Here is the breakdown in cost for fundraising for Maker Maven:
  • Teacher Account (x1) - $299.00
  • Preferred Partner Program - $35.20
  • PledgeCents Platform Fee - $17.60
  • Payment Processing Fee - $10.56
  • Total - $352.00 (rounded up to the nearest dollar)

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase some of the pieces that are included in the "Innovator Kit", such as Google Cardboard Virtual Reality device holders. I would use these to guide students through experiences that coordinate with their curriculum learning. I would also add to my Strawbees supplies and purchase the deck of cards to inspire students to create even more with these building tools. Any contribution to this fund will help me bring more types of activities to our MPJH Maker Space!
