Building The Foundation: Startup Classroom Supplies

The Description

I have successfully completed my residency training with Kansas City Teacher Residency! This means next year I will be responsible for my very own classroom. I can't wait to decorate and meet my students and their families. One of the biggest hurdles that students in high need schools face is a lack of the necessary materials that are needed daily. It makes it infinitely more difficult for students to take part in activities and classwork when they do not have basic supplies.

To get the year started off right, I will use the funds that I raise to purchase the startup supplies needed to welcome my students to a classroom that is clean and stocked full with materials. This will allow me to provide the required supplies to students that otherwise would not have them. I will also purchase copy paper to ensure that I can provide my students with high quality learning materials, whether that is exit tickets, independent activities, or homework. Thank you so much in advance for supporting me and my students at the beginning of this exciting journey.

PledgeCents allows me to keep whatever I raise, so anything you can contribute really will make a difference for my first year. I want to make a great impression and a lasting impact on my first group of students and letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far will definitely get us on the right track. Here is a complete list of the materials that your generous investment will help provide for the students of my very first classroom:

The last push

July 26, 2017

I've spent the past 2 days in Professional Development, learning with the rest of my fellow KIPPster staff about how we're going to make this a year like no other for our students.  It is a huge mountain we're facing this year in our goals for moving student to proficiency, even as we significantly grow the size of the school (we're going from 425 to 580 students). Needless to say, I'm feeling apprehensive about the year ahead as I enter the classroom for the first time. But I'm grateful for all who have donated to helping me supply my classroom.

Please pass the word around to anyone you think would be willing to invest in my students.  6th grade is such a difficult year for kids, and I want to build an environment where my kids aren't only learning to write, but learning how writing can give them voice while they define their identity. It is a crucial developmental year and I'm excited and honored to get to help mentor them through that.

Thanks!! This campaign ends this week.

Where I'm Teaching

June 26, 2017

Thank you for considering sponsoring my new classroom this fall with your gift donation.  I am super excited to be teaching 6th Grade Writing at KIPP:Endeavor Academy in Kansas City MO.  Be sure to check out our website at www.kippendeavor.org and see what an amazing program the KIPP network is in growing students.

Though the list of items is a generic list created for the Residency, I will be focusing on items that will assist my students in their writing journey, and in creating a learning space focused on many of the topics we'll be covering this year, including colonization of America, geography, ancient civilizations, and building community in our own city, along with exciting lessons on grammar, short story writing, and storytelling.

Thanks again for your help!  I couldn't do it without you.

Eric

About the Creator

So yeah, I just completed my residency year with Kansas City Teacher Residency and will be leading my very own classroom in the fall. That's crazy, eh? Just 49 years young, and I decide to become a teacher to middle school students...and someone let me! I'm not sure who is the crazier ones, but regardless, I can't wait to get started. Designing a learning environment where 6th-grade students can get excited about writing may be the biggest challenge of my life.
