Build Our Classroom Library!

The Description

With these funds I will buy books for our classroom library, which is currently very limited. I believe that all students will learn to love to read if given the right book. I make it a priority to provide students time to read self-selected books daily. They need a classroom library to choose from, with a wide variety of genres and levels. Our library will include diverse books for all students. Books will be purchased from Scholastic (which earns us classroom points, from which we can buy even more books), Amazon, and Barnes and Noble. In her second book about independent reading, Reading in the WildDonalyn Miller provides an appendix of students' favorite titles and series across all genres. Many books will be chosen from this list, such as:

Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis ($4.00 at Scholastic)
Harry Potter series, by J.K. Rowling ($50.00 at Scholastic)
Can We Save the Tiger by Martin Jenkins ($7.47 at Barnes and Noble)
A Black Hole is Not a Hole by Carolyn Cinami ($15.27 on Amazon)
Eliza's Freedom Road by Jerdine Nolan ($10.77 on Amazon)

Other books from The School Library Journals Diverse Book List will be purchased, including:

My Basmati Bat Mitzvah by Paula J. Freedman ($7.95 at Barnes and Noble)
Serafina's Promise by Ann E. Burg ($7.99 at Barnes and Noble)

In addition, packs of student's favorite series will be ordered, such as:

I Survived Pack ($22 at Scholastic)
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Pack ($20 at Scholastic)
Who/What/Was Mega Pack ($45 at Scholastic)

With a wide range of books readily available for students at all times, they will learn to love reading and turn into life-long readers, thinkers, and world changers.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase as many books as possible with the funds available.

About the Creator

I am a fourth grade teacher at Van R. Butler Elementary in Santa Rosa Beach, FL. This is my first year in Florida. I previously taught first, second, and fourth grades in Texas, but donated most of my personal classroom supplies (such as books) to other teachers in Texas, as we were unable to bring them with us at the time. This is my thirteenth year in education. I love kids, teaching, and books!
