The Description

With these funds I will...purchase the supplies needed to supplement the FOSS curriculum being used for my K - 4th elementary science classroom. Throughout the course of the year, I will bring many different critters and creepy crawlies into my classroom! These include but are not limited to: butterflies, pill bugs, guppies, goldfish, crayfish, land snails, and more! Along with these critters, I will also need to purchase the supplies to care for them (food, bedding, accessories), as well as additional supplies for replenish the disposable items in the FOSS kits. Each kit comes with enough materials for two classes, and additional materials will be required due to the kits serving up to four classes for the year (I have 263 students!). The disposable items vary by kit but some examples include, cotton balls, wooden sticks, extra bags of items for the students to investigate (pine shavings, different paper samples, soil, etc - to be ordered from the FOSS company), labels, netting, plastic baggies, etc. At the end of the school year, all of the kits will be inventoried and required additional supplies will be ordered for the upcoming year. This is the first year for the elementary science program at Bache, and we would love to make it a great foundation! Any amount that that you invest would be greatly appreciated. I will post updates as we get new supplies in the classroom so that you can see where your investment $$$ went. :)

Delta, the supplier for FOSS, sells a pack of 6 "living materials" cards to be used for purchasing the live organisms needed for study in my classroom. A pack of 6 cards is $172.05. You can find the link here: http://www.deltaeducation.com/how-to-order/replacement-parts-refills

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase...as many additional supplies as I can with the money invested.

Thank you for visiting my page! My name is Heather Histed and I have my teaching certification for grades PreK - 4. I attended Shippensburg University and graduated magna cum laude in 2013. I love working with children and I have been graced with many amazing opportunities over the past few years. During my time at Ship, I was a substitute teacher for the child center on campus, and I had the honor of receiving the Taylor Internship to student teach 1st grade at the Grace B. Luhrs University Lab School. Upon graduation I accepted a position to teach Montessori Preschool in my hometown, and eventually moved to Philadelphia, PA where I am currently teaching K-4 science in the city. I am also the Lego robotics team coach for my school. I love gaining new knowledge of my practice through my daily experiences and collaborating with other professionals in the field. I'm looking forward to discovering where else this journey will take me.
