The Description

With these funds I will...purchase the novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.  It is always a challenge to find good literature that is engaging for students, while at the same time addressing relevant issues such as identity, racial tension and acceptance.

The novel I am requesting these funds to purchase for my students, addresses all of these issues while engaging the reader with humor and wit.  One of my students was reading this novel on his own and showed me several passages to read.  I instantly fell in love with book, and now I want to share this with all of my students.

The link to scholastic for the book, showing the price follows: http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/book/absolutely-true-diary-part-time-indian#cart/cleanup.  Each copy costs $6.71, and with 125 students, the total would be $838.75.

Thank you for considering supporting my students and me in this cause.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase as many copies of the book as the funds allow.

About the Creator

I'm an 8th grade English teacher at Greiner Jr. High in Dallas. I've been a teacher for 11 years. Prior to teaching I was a police officer. I grew tired of dealing with juveniles who had made bad decisions and were then being introduced to the criminal justice system. I was motivated to try and reach these students before they reached that point, and decided to became a teacher. My goal now is to help students reach their full potential and grow up to become educated, productive members of society
