Maker Nexus: A New MakerSpace

The Description

Maker Nexus will use these funds to open a nonprofit makerspace in the Mid-Peninsula area of California, with a huge focus on education, including an immersive STEAM program for kids. The money will go towards opening our doors and filling our space with equipment and tools like laser cutters, 3D printers, woodworking equipment, and computers with design software. They'll also go towards amazing teachers and staff who can help show makers not only basic skills, but how to push themselves to grow and create something amazing. These funds will allow us to have classrooms stocked with project materials, from wood and acrylic for laser cutting, to arduino kits, to filament for 3D printing. And, most importantly, these funds will be going towards fostering a supportive community of makers that welcomes people of all ages, genders, orientations, and interests, so that they can be in a place that really allows them to thrive. Every single dollar counts, no matter the size of your donation! Thank you for your time and generosity, and we hope you'll spread the word to as many people as you can! More information on who Maker Nexus is can be found on our website!

Back Up Plan

Even if we do not raise enough funds to open a large space with fully built out shop areas, Maker Nexus still believes in fostering a strong education program. We would still like to be able to open a smaller shop with minimal equipment that puts an even larger focus on educational courses. We would still be able to run a wonderful STEAM program using only laser cutters, 3D printers, and an electronics area to start with. Then, with time and organic growth, we could still work towards expanding our shop and adding additional equipment as quickly as possible while still being financially responsible.

About the Creator

This campaign is run by Maker Nexus, a nonprofit organization working to open a new Makerspace in the Mid-Peninsula area of California. This makerspace will provide tools and resources to makers, like laser cutters, 3D printers, a wood shop, and a textiles area, as well as lots of open workspace. We'll also have an extensive education program for adults, and an immersive STEAM program for kids. We want to create a welcoming and inclusive environment that allows makers of all ages and kinds to grow.
