Help Contribute to a World Changing Classroom

The Description

With these funds I will build a classroom environment that promotes diversity, resilience, and respect. With increased access to resources, I can expose children to the World. My classroom will investigate different cultures, ethnicities, and languages; debate relevant issues, and search for solutions in seemingly impossible situations. They will learn to generalize all knowledge as essential to their success, to build confidence, and to take that knowledge and confidence back to their communities.

While organizational and educational materials such as folders, file holders, organizers, grade books, props, pencils, markers, paper, etc. are prioritized, it would be naive not to address the fact that Title 1 schools are ranked as such because of their high percentages of students in poverty. Proactively, I'd like acquire other resources in my classroom such as fruit and snacks (for those who may not have eaten), changes of clothes and toiletries (for those who may not have been able to bathe), gloves/coats/hats, etc.

These children need to feel empowered enough to create a future and a vision for themselves. They need to see it's possible! Please help me show them.

Back Up Plan

If my goal is not met, I will use the provided funds to gather as much of my prioritized classroom supplies as possible.

World Changer Classroom coming together...We set our goals!

September 23, 2016

I found out I'd be teaching ENL (English as a New Language) to children from all over the world. I'm IN LOVE with this! Global impact and knowledge of geographical origins has kept the kids on their toes. The students know scholastically where they are, where they want to be, and the hard work it will take to get there. Look below...this week, our classroom visited Thailand!

The Quote of the week comes from one of my Emerging ENL students during open house. With no prompts, in front of friends and family, she clears her throat and tells her Social Studies teacher: " Mr. Anderson, Thailand is located between the Indian and Pacific oceans". I danced, and when I turned around, she was dancing with me!

About the Creator

Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, he's fed for a lifetime. It's time for children to be prepared for life and not just a test.
I joined Teach for America so that I could be placed in a Title 1 school, and reach those children who may otherwise "fall between the cracks". My goal is to evoke passion in education by connecting content to everyday life. I'm not teaching students, I'm preparing World Changers.
