The Description

Our 4th graders are learning about the farm-to-table movement. In December, this unit will conclude with a field lesson: students will tour an urban farm, and then get a behind-the-scenes tour of the Whole Foods Market flagship store.

After the tour, our 120 students will work in groups of four to go on a shopping spree at Whole Foods Market. If this fundraiser is successful, each group of students with have $100 to spend. Students will use teamwork, budgeting, and math skills to spend as close to $100 as possible.

This field trip does not just include lessons on food sourcing, teamwork, and math; it's also about community service. After the Whole Foods shopping spree is over, students get back on the bus and deliver the purchased food to the Central Texas Food Bank, so that families don't go hungry over the holidays.

Back Up Plan

We would love for each group of four students to have $100 to spend. If we raise less than $3,000, we would just lower the amount we are able to give each group.
