The Description

With these funds I will begin creating a digital library by purchasing books on Amazon.com to load onto the Kindle readers we already have at our school. Since we do not have a library that can fully support our almost 600 student campus, procuring funding for books in a creative way is a priority for our school.

The students at my school range from being able to read below, on, and above grade level. They also have varying interests depending on their background, gender, race, age, etc. Because of this, I plan on purchasing a wide variety of books that will be high interest for large groups of our students. The types of books I plan on purchasing are: fiction, non-fiction, science fiction, historical fiction, young adult, biographies, realistic, fantasy, dystopian, literary classics, and award winning novels.

For each book, I plan on purchasing one copy and loading it onto six different devices. This is the typical number of licenses available for Kindle editions of books. If a book increases in popularity, then I will purchase two copies and have twelve licenses total. I will also cross check the books being purchased with the gift cards with the books we already have in paperback on campus. This will prevent repetition and expand the types of books students have available to them.

Purchasing books is extremely important to me and my students because they have all committed to college preparation as their number one priority. I have also committed to their college preparation. Reading is a foundation skill for college and life. These gift cards will translate from books to more time reading to more academic gains to more college acceptances to more college graduations to more educated, passionate citizens. I can’t think of a better way to impact our society.

Back Up Plan

If we don't reach our entire goal we will still keep looking for ways fund our digital library. One of our values is grit and we don't give up when we don't reach a goal. We try again.

Kindles are up and running!

February 5, 2015

Dear Investors,

Because of your donations last year, my students have been able to read around 20 books (of their choice) on the Kindles. They were excited to know that they didn't have to be limited with their book choice because of financial reasons. They are also reading to prepare for their AP English Langauge exam that is coming up in May. The more they have their "eyes on text" then the better they will become at reading fluently and effectively.

Thank you for providing the money to buy the books!
