Men of Frederick Douglass Mastery (www.menoffrederickdouglassmastery.com) is partnering with Shoot Basketball, Not People (www.joinsbnp.com) to host a Back to School Supply Drive for Douglass Mastery elementary students! Our goal is to raise $2500.00 in order to donate a book bag filled with school supplies to each of our 470 elementary students. 

MFDM Mission:

The purpose of MFDM is to provide a space to influence and uplift strong children who will become future leaders and contributors to their community through positive interactions with men of color. We believe that providing donated school supplies to each of our students will enable them to become successful leaders and contributors to their school and surrounding communities, while preparing them for a productive academic year. 

MFDM History:

Men of Frederick Douglass Mastery is an initiative sponsored by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Frederick Douglass Mastery Charter school in Philadelphia. During one of the PTA  meetings in the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year, parents mentioned reestablishing a program called "Douglass Dads" that invited fathers into the school building to support students, teachers, and staff members. After the meeting, two Frederick Douglass teachers, Dana Frye-Thompson and Ashley Carmichael, decided to spearhead the reestablishment process because they believed in the potential positive impact of men of color in the lives of their students. 

Today, the program has been rebranded as Men of Frederick Douglass Mastery in an effort to be more inclusive to men of color outside of the community. The program hopes to empower students to become well-rounded scholars of purpose through their relationships with positive male role models. 

The Back to School Campaign:                                                                            

Our goal is to raise $2500.00 to cover the costs of about 500 book bags and to enable us to purchase school supplies for each of our elementary students. Our list of desired supplies are listed below:
