The Description

With these funds I will...help students fund their trip to Washington DC in the spring. I teach at a small Christian school, and I am trying to raise funds to help the students afford our middle school trip to Washington D.C.

What students will gain:

Students will visit the many memorials and museums so they are able to gain first hand knowledge of out country's past. Students will be able to use what they have learned on the field trip to deepen their in class learning. They will be able to see the documents, people, and places which shaped our nation in its infancy. Students will also see and learn about how and where our nations laws and government are created. The primary learning experiences will be in valuable as we continue our study of American History. This trip will fill each student with memories which will last a life time, and will instill a sense of pride and citizenship in our great nation.

What I hope students do while on the trip:

Students will complete journal entries as we visit each of the memorials, so they are able to deepen their connections and reflect on the monuments in a more personal way. As we study the Smithsonian museums students will complete questions on being American and what artifacts they find that support this. Students will be challenged to think about what they are seeing and apply it to their local community. I also hope students are able to create tangible connections between the places we visit and the history we are learning in class. I believe with these first hand experiences students will retain information for a longer period of time and it will be a stronger connection.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal...I will still distribute any amount to each of the students attending the trip.
