Let Us Be Heard

The Description

With these funds I will purchase a class audio system called RedCat Access. The classroom audio system is something I have observed firsthand in a colleague's classroom. This item will allow students to hear me more clearly as I move around the room to teach, no matter where they are sitting. If students have to struggle to hear information they are more likely to become less engaged. I would be able to utilize this item throughout the entire day during lessons or simple announcements when working in groups. However, I feel that the most important aspect of this system is how it allows all students to be heard equally when talking to their peers.

It is said that a student learns more when they are able to be the teacher, but how disappointing it is when those you are teaching cannot learn all the wonderful information you are sharing. My students do numerous projects throughout the year that they have to present to the class. During math three random students have to teach the class how they solved the given math problem. Twice a week students have to write a story on a topic they choose and present it to the class. In addition we do project presentations throughout the year and Star Student presentations. This item will help in all academic areas because it will allow students to have a louder voice and no longer hear "I can't hear you" or "speak louder".

Back Up Plan

If we do not reach our goal I will purchase use the funds received to purchase additional Kindle Fire Tablets for the classroom. Currently, I have 8 tablets and 2 I personally purchased to make a group of 10. I use these tablets to support student learning in math and language arts. I use the tablets during my math rotations by having students access a math curriculum website called Zearn. The complete lessons and skill based games that follow our class curriculum. Unfortunately with only 8 tablets each student can only spend 10-12 minutes on the website during the rotation. I need a set of 12 to allow my students up to 20 minutes to complete the correlated math lesson. This will support the learning I am doing in a small group with them thus allowing them to be more successful on their math worksheet.

About the Creator

I began teaching in 2011 and moved to my current district in 2016. This is the community that I live in and I know these children very well, many are my neighbors. I decided I wanted to teach when I was in elementary school and have focused all my studies on that goal. I began volunteering in elementary classrooms while in high school and I would always TA for teachers as a class period. I taught preschool while going to college and substitute taught while getting my credential. I love working with students of all ages in all areas.
I believe a student’s desire and passion for learning is formed during their first few years of school, so it is very important to capture their love for school early on. The students come to my classroom excited for the day and I work very hard to ensure that this excitement continues throughout each day. The students come from a wide range of home environments, but they all come from families that want the best for their children.
