Human Rights Game 3D Game Board

The Description
I am ready to construct a classroom tool for my students that will place them at the center of global citizenship and leadership. I was inspired by the ideals and general structure of John Hunter's World Peace Game, where students assume the roles of national leaders, and must solve a complex of interrelated problems without going to war. I have created a version of his simulation based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and related classroom curriculum for young people. The simulation is played out on a 4-level playing surface (undersea, land and sea, atmosphere, and space) to go with the simulation.
Materials
I already have 4 metal posts with wheels and the sleeves that keep the shelves in place.
Your contributions will purchase two (2) sheets of 24 x 48 x .220 inch clear acrylic that I can cut into four shelves that are 2 feet square.
This game board will be easily assembled and disassembled for storage; and it will last a lifetime, which means that countless young people will have the opportunity to think and make decisions like the leaders they will one day become.
Back Up Plan
If I do not meet my goal I will still purchase the acrylic, but I will have to fill the gap from my own pocket.

Wow. I started this cause at about 10:30 Tuesday night, and by 10:00 Wednesday morning, I had $309 donated--193% of what I originally requested! PledgeCents never asked me what I'd do if I exceeded my goal! So, I was a little stunned yesterday, pondering the implications.
Having more than I requested means that I can invest in some cool upgrades to the game. I'll be looking for cool figurines of ships, tanks, soldiers, jets, spacecraft, etc. to populate the board.
I can't tell you all how much it has meant to me for you to contribute to what is happening in my classroom. Thank you for your interest and concern for the next generation of leaders emerging from our classrooms. This is some of the most important and critical work we can be doing to keep this place (earth) running... with us still on it.
Talking about the project with students yesterday, a handful came back up to my room for lunch to continue discussing the set up, and what parameters we will focus on to make the game awesome! I'll keep folks posted as things progress.
Let's go!

About the Creator

First and foremost, I believe that these young people need to see their own ability to act on the world to make it a better place. I believe that in that process--of thinking, acting, reflecting and repeating--students will begin to recognize and accept their power for good, becoming leaders who seek new opportunities to learn and do. This, of course, is the ultimate achievement in the world of teaching and learning: to generate a cadre of lifelong learners and lifelong doers, ready for anything.
