The Description

With these funds I will...create and sustain an urban garden in the classroom. WCS is an environmental school. We have a second grade garden that produces a variety of vegetables. We also focus on the environment through composting, recycling, and trying to reduce our carbon footprint. The students of 401 have decided they would like to learn more about gardening and caring for plants. This is a age where this responsibility is key. The students will be responsible for creating their pots, planting their flowers, and caring for them as they grow and mature.

My students deserve this resource because they are a great group of students. They are very sweet and hardworking. They came up with the idea of the flower garden all by themselves. Sadly, majority of my students are not able to afford the materials. There is a large portion of my students who don't live in neighborhoods with flower gardens around. They want to add beauty to their school environment.

About the Creator

This is my fourth year teaching at Wissahickon Charter School. I absolutely love it! Every inch of my being confirms that I am an urban educator. Not just because I work at an urban school, but because I Breathe, HELP, AND Understand my students. Being an urban educator is not easy, but I would not trade it for the world.

I obtained my undergrad and Masters from Arcadia University. I am certified early childhood, elementary education, and special education.
