It Is Too Hard To Sit Still!!

The Description

With these funds I will purchase 2 Safco Runtz Ball Chairs for students who struggle to sit still for learning.  These students have a need for balance and these chairs will help the students feel more stable in their own skin.

Here is a link to the cost, they are currently on sale: http://www.overstock.com/search?keywords=+Safco+Runtz+Ball+Chairs&SearchType=Header

Each chair is $121 plus shipping.

Here is another link telling why the chairs help students who struggle with attention and focus issues: http://fox13now.com/2014/01/13/new-chairs-help-calm-wiggles-of-students-at-slc-autistim-school-officials-say/

And another link which describes why it is important for students to have the proper seating: http://www.minds-in-bloom.com/2012/04/advice-from-ot-why-good-sitting-good.html

In my classroom, one of these chairs will be used for a particular student.  The other will be used for the general education students as an incentive for great behavior and hard work.  It will also be beneficial to have 2 chairs, in case next year's class has more needs.  The Runtz Ball Chairs have a 5 year warranty, which is important because other stability balls are easier to pop.  These chairs will help keep students more focused on their learning, and not wandering around the room, laying on the desks, sitting on the floor, kicking neighbors while at their desks.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase one Runtz Chair or stability balls.

About the Creator

In our first grade classroom, we are always active. We have several areas where group learning takes place and many times students are working in pairs or small groups too! Our classmates are very diverse in their basic and academic needs and we all work together to achieve learning for all!

The students in my classroom are typically children at high risk of not succeeding in school. Poverty is an issue in our neighborhood. Every student learns that our school is a safe environment and they are encouraged and supported to learn to their greatest ability!
