Hawthorn Hills is a place where diversity is appreciated and individual learning needs are consistently met. Our Mission is: Teachers, parents, and community members working together in a positive environment to provide the tools and opportunities for each child to attain high standards in academics and citizenship. The Hawthorn Hills student population includes students with limited English Proficiency, special education needs, and those with exceptional abilities. Our dedicated classroom teachers and paraprofessionals collaborate effectively with special educators, subject area specialists and parents to provide a rigorous curriculum that is consistently differentiated to meet the unique and individual needs of all of our students.

In our first grade classroom, we are always active. We have several areas where group learning takes place and many times students are working in pairs or small groups too! Our classmates are very diverse in their basic and academic needs and we all work together to achieve learning for all! The students in my classroom are typically children at high risk of not succeeding in school. Poverty is an issue in our neighborhood. Every student learns that our school is a safe environment and they are encouraged and supported to learn to their greatest ability!
