The Description

With these funds I will...

Turner High School is an urban high school in Kansas City, Kansas. As a district, 73% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunches.  Turner High School offers a variety of sports and activities to all of its students.  The THS Golden Bear Football team currently has a 68 man roster comprised of students in 9th - 12th grades.  The past three years, the Golden Bear Football team has participated in the First Downs for Down Syndrome (FDFDS) Fundraiser Program for the Kansas City Metro Area.  FDFDS is a joint fundraising effort between FDFDS and Kansas City Metro high schools.  All funds raised are split evenly between FDFDS and the participating high school football program.  The football program is then able to use the money as it sees fit. In the past, funds have gone to cover the cost of reconditioning football helmets.  The cost to recondition one football helmet is approximately $150.  Reconditioning or replacing helmets (replacing a helmet costs at least twice what it does to recondition) is a huge expense each year and is necessary to ensure the safety of the boys on the field.

Funds raised this year will again go to off setting the cost of reconditioning/replacing football helmets after the end of the 2017 football season.  On average each year we have between 10-15 helmets in need of reconditioning after a full season.  Although it is possible that the cost to recondition the helmets could surpass the funds raised through this effort, $2,000 would cover most of the cost.

Back Up Plan

If we do not reach our goal I will purchase...All funds raised will go towards off setting the cost of reconditioning the helmets after the 2017 football season.
