I believe that writing is a powerful tool not only for communicating existing ideas but also for discovering new ones. I also believe that learning to write is a life-long process and that all writers benefit from sharing work in progress with knowledgeable readers as well as with their peers. So my plan is to create a writing center for my students to utilize as a resource to become better writers. The writing center will have a full-functioning laptop, white board, chart paper and corrective supplies such as red pens, highlighters, sticky notes and lined paper, storage and a Presentation Clicker for Presentations on Writing that will be exclusively led by my students with the help of Staff. 

This project will serve as an active resource inside the classroom to help my students become better writers and for them to collaborate with each other to learn how to become better writers and thinkers. The center will work with students on issues such as research, structure, flow, grammar, punctuation, citations, and spelling. The center will help students not only with their current assignment, but future assignments as well. There will be trained Student and Staff tutors who will work with students and offer an environment that may be less intimidating than a classroom setting. While some students may be intimidated to ask their teacher question, they may feel more comfortable working with their peer. My vision for this center is to serve as not only a place where students can get help for their classes, but a place to help prepare them for their future careers.

My students will ultimately become better writers, readers and critical thinkers as a direct result of this project. They will utilize the peer-editing piece of the center to help each other become better writers. Additionally, trained tutors will hold appointments for students to come to the writing center to have one-on-one sessions to aid in their writing skills as well. We will also hold interactive seminars on tips and strategies to improve their writing. This project will improve students learning in all subjects, make curriculum more meaningful and provide opportunities for my students to actively engage with writing in all subjects in a more meaningful way. This project will give my students the resources and solutions to effective writing so they can continue to excel in writing into High School and College and beyond.
