Start-up Classroom Supplies!!

The Description

In less than a week, I will be starting my career as an elementary teacher, teaching over 100 fourth graders writing.  As many know, fourth graders are witty, thoughtful, observant, opinionated, and overall the best!!

You may not know this, but Philadelphia is THE poorest large city in the United States.  The distribution of wealth in this state, or in this city and surrounding areas is not equal.  Our city is filled with universities, where 1 out of every 6 doctors in the United States has attained his or her medical degree.  The great universities in our city sit in stark contrast to what my students have to face every day.  My students all qualify for free breakfast and lunch.  They live in a neighborhood that is filled with poverty.

As a new teacher, I am doing what I can to set up my classroom for my 4th grade writers.  Hundreds of pencils have been bought and sharpened, seating charts have been arranged. But my class still has a long way to go.

With your investment I will use these funds too...

--Purchase a carpet for our daily morning meeting and our writing lesson gathering
--Purchase binders for students so students have a centralized location for all of their writing pieces
--Purchase tissues for those runny noses
--Purchase hand sanitizer to prevent germs

--Purchase sanitizing wipes to keep our classroom clean and make sure our scholars aren't getting sick.

My scholars and I appreciate any investment you are able to make, thank you!

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will prioritize purchasing a classroom rug.

The classroom rug is where all of my classes have their daily lesson.  It in a place where all of my students can be close together and collaborate.  It is where a large part of our day is spent every day.  My students have the lesson at the carpet to foster community, they then transition to their seats to be able to write in their writer's notebooks.

If I do not meet all of my funds, I will prioritize purchasing this classroom rug, so my students have a clean, comfortable, and inviting area for each day's lesson.

About the Creator

I am excited to be a part of the TFA family and join the movement to solve education inequity in this country and provide all students with a quality education. I'm fortunate enough to be selected from a nationwide talent applicant pool to join a teacher corps comprised of leaders who commit a minimum of two years to teach in high need public schools. This summer I will be participating in an intensive skill and knowledge development program aiming to increase student achievement as well as a comprehensive professional development program including seminars, discussion groups, workshops, and content and professional learning communities specific to teaching license areas. I can't wait for my first year with Teach for America.
