Making Test Prep accessible for ALL students.

The Description
With these funds I will...purchase 25 copies of the Official SAT Study Guide and 10 registrations for the Official SAT Online course. These guides will be distributed to Juniors (and Sophomores, if not enough Juniors) who would benefit by having these test prep materials and whose families are unable to afford such luxuries. The 10 spaces in the online course will be distributed by the guidance department to students who show the drive and discipline to follow through with the course, but whose home life or family circumstances make such test prep cost-prohibitive. Students will be provided with a time and space in school to work on the online course, if they need that to be successful.

We have nearly 20 percent of our high school student population that is eligible for Free and Reduced Lunch. Many of these students are from immigrant families, and would be the first in their families to graduate HS, let alone even think about attending college. To be provided with a study guide for THE test that is a necessity for college preparation, would allow them to be prepared for this critical examination.
Back Up Plan
I will purchase as many print study guides as funding allows. If the print guides can be fully funded, then we will purchase the online course registrations until the funding runs out.
Fundraiser Updates (2)
Thank you!
March 24, 2015
Thank you very much to all of you who contributed to our project and to the CHS Cougar Boosters who funded the remaining balance. Due to the state-wide PARCC Testing all this month, I've been unable to meet with the head of guidance to determine how many books I'll need to order, and which editions. I already have price-shopped locally and am hoping to be able to order the guides from our local independent bookstore at a discounted 19.99 each. This will allow me to stretch the funds further and assist more students than initially planned. After talking to several guidance counseloers, we are likely going to eliminate the online course , in favor of more print guides (since the printed guides can be donated back to the school after the student graduates) . Based on the total amount of funds collected, we are looking at being able to purchase 85-90 guides @ 19.99 each. -- Mrs. Ng, CHS Librarian
Update re: NEW S.A.T.
January 5, 2015
The study guide for the NEW SAT (2015-2016+) will be available for purchase from the publisher in late June 2015. Depending on how the funding goes, and which students have been identified as most in need and likely to benefit from this cause, purchasing the guides may be postponed until the new guides are available. Guides can be purchased and then distributed to the students during the summer of 2015 - in preparation for Fall 2015 testing dates. Thank you for your support.
