Help Detroit 1st Graders Brighten Up Their Local City Park!

The Description
With these funds our school's first graders will be able to purchase the supplies necessary to bring their designs for a city park to life! We will purchase sandpaper for metal (10 packs), 7 gallons of primer, 7 gallons of paint, 2 boxes of trashbags, 2 boxes of student and adult gloves, 10 swing seats, and 100 feet of chain for the swings.
Next to DAA, our school, lies a less-than-joyful Detroit city park. The swings are wrapped around the top of the swingsets and the paint for the swingsets is faded and almost entirely chipped off. "It looks a little scary.... not for me, but maybe for other people," sighed one of our students when they first saw it.
With our school recently moving to the neighborhood, the park has 120 students waiting to enjoy it!
Our 1st grade has spent 6 weeks interviewing other grades within our school, working on designs for the park, and pitching these designs to school administrators and park repair experts. They have chosen the color -- "rainbow" -- and have lined up volunteers to help them complete the work. As an Expeditionary Learning school, our students own their learning and our learning is project-based and often times centered on providing a solution to a real world problem. This project will allow our students to complete the process of identifying a problem in their neighborhood, working through multiple drafts of solutions to that problem, and then implementing that solution with their own two hands!
Please invest in our students' learning and in our neighborhood!
Back Up Plan
If we do not meet our goal, we will rely on donations of products to get the park to as joyful and usable a state as possible.
