The Description

We, the 7th grade classes at Veritas Prep Charter School in Springfield, MA would love to have Drawp for School in our classrooms! With this resource students can complete beautiful interactive projects online, collaborate with other students, and immediately share their creations with their classrooms, their teachers, and their families.

Check it out here: http://www.drawpforschool.com/

We will use Drawp for School for small group stations in both mathematics and science. Although the applications are limitless, we will mostly use Drawp to allow students to create visual representations of the topics discussed in class. This will allow them to explore ideas with more depth, reflect on, and solidify their learning.

Here's how we would use it if we had this program TOMORROW:

In Mathematics: Our current unit is Operations with Rational Numbers. Students typically struggle with the distributive property. During our Problem Solving math class, small groups of 4 students would go to a technology station in the back of the room. They would have 20 minutes working on Drawp on the class iPads that I personally purchased to create visual representations of the distributive property. Students could use one of the 2 models we discussed in class, or create their own model for extra credit. The program allows students to incorporate voice recordings into their creations, so students would be expected to explain each part of their model with a voice recording or written explanation.

In Science: Our current unit is "Cells". Students are deepening their knowledge of cell theory and learning how to distinguish plant and animal cells under a microscope. We would use Drawp in technology stations (as explained above) to create visual representations of plant and animal cells and use the voice recording feature to add explanations so that teachers can have greater insight into students thinking and address misconceptions.

Back Up Plan

If I meet my goal I will purchase 2 annual subscriptions to Drawp for School for myself and the other 7th grade teachers at my school.

About the Creator

I am a third generation educator currently teaching math and science to 24 innovative, compassionate, and curious 7th graders in Springfield, MA. I am passionate about incorporating the newest education technologies in meaningful and responsible ways to my classrooms, particularly for my students who have lacked access to these resources. S.T.E.A.M. incorporation in my classroom is pivotal. I have been given a unique opportunity to reflect constantly on these connections and integrate cross-curricular lessons with my current teaching schedule of math and science.

For the last four years I worked in Miami-Dade County Public Schools serving first as a tutor and mentor with the AmeriCorps program City Year, and then as a co-teacher in a blended technology classroom. My previous classroom gave daily laptop access to 220 students, an average of 50 students per class. Students progressed through virtual interactive curriculum to reinforce their small group classroom demonstrations, activities, and lessons. It focused on 21st century skills, including collaboration and presentation, emphases I have continued in my current class.

Please support our efforts to bring the latest and most effective resources to our engaged and inquisitive classroom!
