Mindfulness Matters for Young Yogis :)

The Description

With these funds I will purchase yoga mats to teach my second graders a daily yoga sequence to improve their mind/body connection and develop a healthy sense of self-care and wellness. Each morning, we will begin our day with 10 minutes of yoga, meditation, or other mindfulness practice. There are tremendous benefits to a daily yoga practice for children of all ages (http://www.yoga4classrooms.com/benefits-of-yoga-in-schools). I can't wait to support my students' overall well-being, self-esteem, and strength--physical, mental, and emotional--through yoga!

My students deserve these resources because they are driven, passionate, and brilliant! Second graders deserve to have access to activities that promote mindfulness and wellness. Our school supports an extremely healthy food policy, and I believe that yoga will complement our schoolwide belief that our students can and should have access to a healthy lifestyle.

Supplies I will purchase:

Mat roll: http://www.yogadirect.com/yoga-direct-1-4-inch-yoga-mat-roll.html

Storage crates: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Crates-Pallet-27-in-x-12-5-in-x-9-5-in-X-Large-Wood-Crate-2-Pack-94646/205533896

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase as many yoga mats as possible and have students take turns using the mats with a partner or group (and forgo the storage bins).
