A very warm welcome from our community here at Freire Charter High School in Wilmington, Delaware! There is buzz and excitement in the air as we prepare to open our new campus in Delaware for August 2015, and we can’t wait to share our award-winning Freire education with a new group of eighth and ninth graders (and expanding over the next three years to serve grades 10-12).
But what is a Freire education?
At its core, a Freire education is about making sure every student receives a rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum in an environment that is nurturing to the whole child and safe. Over the past fifteen years, we’ve developed a highly successful curriculum of challenging courses—including AP classes and dual credit opportunities–and we’re proud to graduate college-ready individuals.
Equally important, we know that for students to be successful in their lives we can’t only focus on the academics and must educate the whole person. So at Freire, we make sure to help our students grow in their emotional, social, and civic development in their classes and through a wide variety of projects and extra-curricular activities. Our students are not just learners—they are leaders.

I am very passionate about teaching and empowering students. I teach 8th grade special education students in Wilmington, Delaware at Freire Charter School of Wilmington. I also serve as Director of Special Education and am helping the department of special education grow. Our goal is to provide all students with a high-quality education that focuses on college readiness, individual freedom, critical thinking, and problem solving while our school community helps to foster and emphasize the values of community, teamwork, and nonviolence.
