About

The mission of JQUS is to develop its students to be knowledgeable, productive members of a global society through an education that promotes cultural awareness, skillful use of information, personal renewal, and both individual and community path-finding for the twenty-first century.

JQUS is a supportive community, offering to its students, faculty, families and community partners opportunities to know one another well. JQUS emphasizes the importance of high standards in all subject areas. JQUS balances requirements for core subjects with additional requirements in world languages, the arts and physical education.

JQUS is a 6-12 school, building on the experiences of students from the Josiah Quincy Elementary School and other schools, creating continuity of experiences for all community members throughout the elementary and secondary school years. JQUS cultivates the appreciation for lifelong learning in the development of its staff and students.

JQUS, because of its status as a pilot school, seeks to create innovative, replicable and sustainable models for school reform in Boston. The Josiah Quincy Upper School is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) School for the Diploma Programme (Grades 11 & 12) and the Middle Years Programme (Grades 6 -10).

As the birthplace of public education in this nation, the Boston Public Schools is committed to transforming the lives of all children through exemplary teaching in a world-class system of innovation, welcoming schools. We partner with the community, families and students to develop within every learner the knowledge, skill, and character to excel in college, career, and life.
