We, the community of Kathy L. Batterman Elementary School, dedicate ourselves to making a difference by creating a positive safe environment. Each child will achieve academic success and a love for learning by building connections through writing across the curriculum and inquiry-based instruction.

Kathy L. Batterman was a marvelous lady. She is a great hero and role model to have as our school’s namesake! Just as Kathy Batterman made a difference to so many people, we are committed to making a difference for children.

David Jernigan

Art Educator

I have been teaching art for over twenty years, with the majority of my career in the elementary school setting. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio, a teaching credential from Eastern Michigan University, and a master’s degree in educational technology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). I am proud to be the third generation in my family to pursue a career in teaching. My parents and grandmother all dedicated their lives to the profession. As an art teacher, I find joy in helping students discover the creative potential within themselves. I love incorporating science, history, and geography into my art lessons, creating a cross-disciplinary approach that broadens students’ understanding of the world. I live in Las Vegas with my wonderful wife and our two amazing sons.
