About
Although six, seventh, and eighth graders all have their own "houses" in different parts of the school, students of different ages still mix together in our multi-age advisory. This allows the older kids to mentor the younger ones, and it gives the younger kids a feeling of belonging. The sixth graders love having those connections to the older kids as well as teachers in other wings of the building. Our school has an innovative anti-bullying policy, with a "Stand for the Silent" organization leading the way in helping all of our students become "upstanders" against bullying. Our teachers work diligently at differentiating our lessons so that students of all ability levels are challenged and find success. We balance standardized test preparation with hands-on and cooperative learning activities. Raising test scores is part of our job, but motivating and exciting students is even more important while making sure they are prepared for the challenges that await them in their futures. I know our school is a good place for kids because so many of our former students come back and visit us!

Teacher/ English/language arts
I've been teaching middle school English for 23 years. Ten of those years were spent teaching a two-hour block of English and history. It was so much fun to integrate all of those skills in such a natural interdisciplinary way. I love helping kids dig deeply into a text through socratic seminars and cooperative learning projects, and I also love helping students discover the writer that is inside each of them. I was the yearbook sponsor for at least nine years, and I currently sponsor the Dungeons and Dragons club, which is a strange but fun new experience for me! In my spare time, I'm raising two middle-school aged children of my own, and I love to camp, hike, and read. I'm toying with the idea of getting my PhD or writing a novel because I need a new challenge in my life.
