Deshaun Harris

5th Grade Math Teacher

I, Deshaun Harris, am a native of Houston, Texas. In 2009, I graduated from Jack Yates High School and went on to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education from Prairie View A&M University. My previous work experience includes serving as an AmeriCorps member (in affiliation with Project GRAD Houston) as a College Success Coordinator making sure that high school students are prepared financially and academically for college. Also, I have worked with students in the Greater Houston area through service projects and academic guidance. In 2012, I entered the field of education as a high school mathematics interventionist. Every summer, I am an attendee of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Teacher Quality & Retention Institute. A program that trains, recruits, supports and keeps teachers in the classrooms. Currently, I am a 5th-grade math teacher at Red STEM Magnet School located in Houston Independent School District. Also, I attend Sam Houston State University, obtaining my master’s degree in Instructional Leadership with a minor in Curriculum & Instruction. Education is deeply rooted in my family tradition. My goal as a teacher is to prepare students to become productive citizens. My passion for teaching can be seen in my students as they demonstrate dedication, perseverance, and skill every day. I hope that my positive influence creates a lasting impression is the heart of my students throughout the rest of their lives.
