Karyn Lewis

Teacher Librarian

Mrs. Lewis is an innovative librarian who enjoys connecting her students not only to the latest books, but to the trending tools and technology. She is a fan of robots, iPads, Harry Potter, and picture books. Her library is filled with conversations, students, and creations. It truly is the center of the school and "the room where it happens"!

Our Collegiate Library/Student Union is a unique place. It is not always quiet, as one might expect a traditional library to be...because it is more than that. We do check out books and always encourage reading. As I personally believe, "Books are food for the soul." And we are building our collection nearly from scratch, our students effectively involving themselves through a book drive they initiated before Christmas break! We also offer on-line resources, printing, computers, and chrome books for student use. Additionally, we are implementing a Maker Space program to support the STEAM focus of our campus. But, even beyond all those things, our space is a gathering place for students to exchange ideas, share knowledge, express their own thoughts (both deep ones and not so deep ones); a place to create and study, brainstorm and contemplate...individually or in study groups. Our hope is that our students will feel a sense of ownership, in that it is a place for them, but also a sense of responsibility for the same reason. As part of the collegiate experience, the Student Union is a vital component to the community, independence, and self-discipline we are attempting to develop in our scholars.

Math teacher

I am a math teacher in a small urban school within the district. I teach math in a blended learning environment to 7-12th graders. I am starting to create a maker space in my classroom to encourage my students to explore, create and develop problem s9lving skills to compete in today’s market.

1st Grade Teacher

I'm a 1st grade teacher in Franklin, TN with a group of fun, loving first graders who are eager to learn! This is my 7th year teaching at Poplar Grove Elementary after graduating from one of the top Education programs at Lipscomb University. I am a product of the Franklin Special School Distrcit and am thankful to be teaching students in the district that helped to shape me. I'm passionate about building a classroom culture that allows for students to grow academically and socially. We are a family in our room - we challenge each other daily and learn how to support one another! I'm driven to find ways to prepare my students for the thousands of jobs in the STEM fields that are not even created yet. This means we are constantly finding creative ways to incorporate STEAM activities into our daily 1st grade curriculum!
